Dartmouth College

Dartmouth was created in 1769, before the American Revolution. It is today, one of the top, oldest and most selective university of the United States.

Dartmouth is a member of the Ivy League (Ancient Eight). The Ivy League is a group of the 8 most elitist universities including the universities of: Brown, Colombia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Pennsylvania, Princeton and Yale.

I now have the chance to start my formation there and I would like to share my story with you.

the Ivy League

It all started when I spoke with a old student from my school who is now at Harvard. He quickly catched my attention because he did not seemed to different than I and he obviously made it to Harvard: the best university in the world. I had dreamed of a great education and this is when I started digging in this direction.

The Ivy League means the best education but also a great variety of sports with all it teams in the 1st Division (best level) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Division 1 is: the best program possible, the highest budget, the biggest opportunity in term of athletic career. As I had also dreamed of a great alpine skiing career, this path seemed to suit me well.

Concerning my education, I want to study Economics (Major) and Computer Science (Minor). It will allow me to build a good base for my professionnal career and long term vision. I am still not sure in which field exactly but I would really like to have a solid base.

In my familly, we are all academician as my father was a professor at Geneva University and my mother studied medicine in Geneva. My older sister studies physiotherapy in a HES and my older brother studies architecture at EPFL. Then there is my younger brother, who isn't like us. He helps us discovering a new way of living as he has a mental discapability

ski team

There is a total of 12 skiers (men) in the Dartmouth Men’s Ski Team. There is one Head Coach (Peter Dodge - former WC alpine skier) and one assistant (Courtney Temple). The best actual skier of the ski team is named Brian McLaughlin, 1993. He is part of the US Collegiate Team (a group in the US ski team). He has 18.92 FIS pts in SL, 16.21 in GS, 30.84 in SG. Considering the quality of the ski program, David Chodounsky was trained by Peter Dodge, while he was at Dartmouth for his studies for 4 years.

My goal is clearly to become one of the best skier that Dartmouth ever had. Winning Nord American races would allow me to join the World Cup circuit and this is my long term goal.

finances

The US collegiale system offers lots of advantages. But when it is about educational costs we, as swiss people, tend to be suprised with the huge cost of attendance. Dartmouth is a private institution so a typical school year costs arround 75'00-82'000$. This amount includes: the tuition and fees, housing and food, travels and flights, insurances and some expenses related to skiing (material, trainings, etc).
